What is PD Warrior?
This unique therapy approach will help to build your confidence, improve your mobility and help you to fight the symptom's of Parkinson's disease. PD Warrior revolutionises not only the therapy that is delivered to people with mild symptoms of Parkinson's disease, but also when it is delivered, how it is delivered and why it is delivered. The vision of PD Warrior is to completely change the neurological landscape and the way that Parkinson's disease can be managed. PD Warrior offers you hope that there is life after diagnosis and the opportunity that you can get back into life!
Why is PD Warrior important?
Research suggests that exercise is the only way currently known with the potential to slow Parkinson's disease down.
It is estimated that at diagnosis of Parkinson's disease the majority of cells that produce dopamine have already been destroyed. Medication does not protect the remaining cells. This means that as the disease progresses, the remaining cells will continue to be destroyed and the symptoms will progress.
Don't wait until it is too late, start your PD Warrior program now!
How is PD Warrior different?
PD Warrior is a rehab program that is better for your Parkinson's than normal exercise. You need a specific approach to help you slow your Parkinson's down – this comes from an understanding of what type of Parkinson's you have, what activities you are having problems with what your goals are. PD Warrior helps you to use the brain's natural ability to protect itself and create more efficient pathways. This helps you to move freely so you can continue the activities you enjoy doing and get control back!
How do I start?
The first step is to book an assessment with one of our qualified PD Warrior instructors. They will assess whether you are suited to the program or not and trial 1-2 key exercises to get you started. More information is available on the PD Warrior website.
We offer two different PD Warrior times at the moment:
- Mondays 10am
- Thursdays 4pm
We know exercise is helpful at slowing the progression of Parkinson's Disease. Our PD45 exercise group is directed at newly diagnosed clients who only experience minor PD symptoms. Do you feel you're getting enough targeted exercise? PD45 targets symptoms of lack of arm swing, reduced stamina, stiffness and slowness, reduced dexterity as well as reduced aerobic fitness (we know aerobic exercise promotes neurogenesis, the production of new brain cells, and has neuroprotective capacity). The class uses a lot of boxing, strength and balance work and is a great opportunity to meet other motivated people with PD. This program launched in early 2017 and runs on Mondays at 5pm for 45 minutes. It is perfect for active people who are living a busy life balancing work, family and their health.
